“RAINS” specifications

ISRI stands for Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc. It is an association of the reprocessing and recycling industries. The specific ISRI code for auto, truck and lead acid battery scrap is RAINS. RAINS are standard specifications especially for lead acid battery scraps. It ensures that the batteries are completely drained and dry.  They should be free from acids, water and other liquids also. scrap batteries can contain plastic or rubber cases. The cases are generally plastic with 95% white color and 5% black color. The cases must not be made of wood, metal or glass. All suppliers of lead acid scrap batteries adhere to RAINS.  These drained lead acid scrap batteries are the preferred type of raw materials for lead recycling and smelting industries. RAILS and RINKS are the other similar specification codes available. Thus after proper battery disposal, based on the requirement they are drained completely and then recycled.
